Five Questions Friday

Rules for Five Question Friday: You can copy and paste the following questions to your own blog, answer them, and even link up if you want!

If you don't have a blog, but want to play along...feel free to answer the questions in the comments of my blog.

1. Is there something you've always wanted to try but just can't muster up the courage to actually do yet?

2. If you had $100 handed to you in cash without your significant other knowing about it, what would you spend it on?

3. What was your favorite piece of playground equipment as a child?

4. Do you prefer a sweet or hearty breakfast?

5. Are you a Neat Freak or a Messy Bessy?

My answers:

1. Try out the new Y pool. The open-to-the-public restaurant is situated RIGHT NEXT to the pool for prime viewing. UGH!

2. Yarn or something for the house or a bit of clothing at Bryn Walker.

3. I had several: the merry-go-round, the monkey bars and the swings. The merry-go-round because I loved the feel of the wind on my face (the round and round part not so much lol). The monkey bars because I loved the feeling of not touching ground and the challenge of making it across without dropping. The swings because I loved pumping my feet and feeling the freedom of going way up in the air. I sense a theme here. Freedom and weightlessness lol.

4. Hearty Breakfast. Nothing like a cheese omelet and maple sugar flavored lightly sausages. Ok maybe a little sweet.

5. I am a little of both. I LOVE organization and organizing, especially others' stuff. But I can on a moment-to-moment basis be quite a Messy Bessy. I'm like a silver bullet - I just shoot through the air, not looking right or left, just full steam ahead to the target. Unlike my driving, where family members say when they pass me I'm never looking at the road lol.

And what are YOUR answers?

Have a good one. :)

  1. Oooh! I'll play :)

    1) I'm pretty ballsy, actually (I think it's a sign of stupidity!). Just finished my first novel, which was something I've always wanted to do..and now about to start shopping it out to agents to try and publish it. Ugh. Haven't started yet, and it's so much scarier than writing was, so I guess that's something. Making my private work public. Ugh. It hurts just thinking about it.

    2) I don't have a significant other. Ha- maybe with 100$ I'd try to buy one!

3)Trees. We had a great old oak in my parents' yard with branches that were the perfect height to climb all the way up, and most of them were shaped so that you could snuggle into them. All playground equipment is man attempting to improve on the already perfect tree.

4)Hearty! I'm obsessed with savoury things and only get seduced by sweetness with ice cream. Man...proper British fry-up in the morning: eggs, toast, MUSHROOMS, beans, sausage and bacon (although I'm trying to be a vegetarian so it's hard) with milk tea = heaven. Every Sunday. Til the day I day.

5)I'm clean, but messy. Meaning, I vacuum regularly, do my laundry and the dishes and things like that (always keep a clean bathroom!) but they're weekly occurences (except for the dishes-that's daily), and when I come home after work or something and change, the clothes are left on the floor, or if I'm late to work, the breakfast dishes wait in the sink until I'm back. So it's all clean, it's just...untidy.

  2. Aloha! Thanks for playing :)
It's fun to find out what makes other people tick.
    1. I know exactly what you mean about the writing - a nonfiction writer by trade, I am just trying out my fiction muscles - it's tough when you are a little out of your element, like hangin' on the proverbial limb lol. It's funny, I have always taken the opposite approach - I find the process of writing the exciting part, and when I'm finished and satisfied I drop it like a hot potato. Not sure how this will affect my fiction writing - that's a bit more emotional and therefore more personal. Anyway, congratulations on finishing - that's most of the battle, isn't it? Good luck on shopping it around - and if you need a sounding board, I will be happy to oblige. I promise I am fair and positive - leftover from being the asst. ed. on the editorial totem pole lol.
    2. Love, love, love English breakfasts - second your MUSHROOMS - how do they do it??? - and milk tea. Well. That brings me back to my childhood every single time. And it was good lol.
3.I agree, I keep wondering how I can be clean and messy at the same time lol!
    Thanks so much for posting!

  3. hi!
I'd really appreciate a sounding board actually-it would be great to have feedback from someone who doesn't know me at all. I've sent the novel out to quite a few people (about 15) but none of them are professionally involved in writing, and they all know me, so I feel my demographic is pretty small.

Feel free to email me at thecompassioknitter@gmail.con if you're interested in reading it- it's 96,000 words though. And I'd love to return the favor when your fiction is feedback ready!

    Kind regards

  5. hey!
I'm sorry, but I can't find your email in my inbox. Did it go to the correct address? Otherwise, you could try c.lynn.murphy@gmail.com if that's easier.
    Sorry about this!

  6. Ok! Re-sent it to your newest address; it's coming from my mvywheels address. I sent the first one to the first email you listed - maybe I mistyped the address??

  7. 1. My first thought is this, I wish I could learn to do the crawl and get my face in the water as you are supposed to do, but I can't overcome my fear of breathing in the whole pool. I need a trainer. My second thought was this- I wish I could book a trip to New York City and go sightseeing, dining, and leisurely strolling. This might take courage because I would want to go solo, so no one could ruin my joy of visiting the Met with complaints of "This is boring" or "When do we eat?" It would take courage because I would want to spring for a nice hotel. I am a mom who wears things til they fall apart (not really, but I think you'll know what I mean) so my girls can have the things they need and want.

    2. I have no significant other, so there will be no subterfuge.... I would want to go to D. Cole in Portland's Old Port and buy something beautiful, a pendant or a ring, but I might need to supplement that amount if I found something I really loved.

    3. Technically, this piece of equipment was in our own backyard, but it was a handmade seesaw that also rotated. My dad found it one summer during the telephone strike; a man up North made them and sold them. I am the oldest of six and we never tired of hanging out with the younger sibs, see-sawing, talking, and laughing.

    4. I prefer a hearty breakfast. Lately my go-to sandwich consists of an egg over easy, some cheddar melted onto a multigrain sandwich thin, hot sauce, and a cup of coffee with cream and cinnamon sprinkled on top.

    5. I would say a poor combination of the two, because chaos always overtakes my small abode if I don't pick up daily. To my credit, I have been purging a lot of things each week on the day before the trash pick up. As hard as it is to let go of things, I persist. Hopefully, that will mean less stuff to straighten and dust once I get through all of the rooms! I aspire to be a Neat Freak, but creativity does seem to flourish when Messy Bessy rules the roost.

  8. Erin: We must be sisters of a different mother lol; we share the sensibilities, preferences, same love of that seesaw lol! As for Old Port, and Maine in general - even though I love, love, love the Island, it was kinda love at first sight! And especially after finding out you could buy Quince & Co. yarn outright, no mail order, at Knit Wit's.
PS: I got around that pesky face in the water by using a mask and snorkel to do laps! Don't laugh, I was just doing what dozens were doing around me lol.

  9. As for your PS.... but wasn't everyone that was wearing goggles and snorkels under the age of ten?? I am WAY over the age of ten now.
Maybe I can hire a cute lifeguard to teach me??? wowsa wowsa

  10. Hate to admit this... But I was the youngest in the lap lanes using the snorkel and mask lol. Everyone was older and rehabbing new body parts - hips and knees. I had a choice of getting an aquatic trainer, but let's face it: I'm not any young thing, and facing a young trainer stud in my granny pants one-piece... not happening lol. At first I panicked breathing since you don't have to lift your head, but then you kinda get a groove going. Some older, former swim teamer claimed you gained time, but I dunno. It seemed like forever swimming to me.
